Fracture tailoring in 3D printed continuous fibre composite materials using the Phase field approach for fracture

Additive Manufacturing is a technology with high potential since it offers lot of benefits going from lower material waste to flexibility in the component fabrication process. The continuous Carbon Fibre (CF) deposition an interesting approach allows depose CF bundles following different geometries and avoiding limitations current composite manufacturing techniques. Choosing path means also giving designer possibility reinforce areas designed which are subjected stress concentrations, thus increasing its fracture resistance. In this work, study on reinforcement capabilities performed, considering specimen for path. Two analysed: V-notch Open-Hole specimen, both tensile loading. To model scenario, Phase Field framework exploited. simulation demonstrates capability catch mechanical response reported experiments literature. second part paper, Open Hole Tension test simulated numerically by same tools described above, taking into consideration around hole. specimens show responses crack patterns, highlighting influence geometry scenario.
